The Ballad of Daphnis and Chloe
Vixen Theatre Company is proud to present The Ballad of Daphnis and Chloe as part of the 2025 Raleigh Fringe Festival. Written by Carmen-Maria Mandely and inspired by the very first romance novel, this Grecian tale of young love paved the way for the epic love stories we all know by heart.
Daphnis and Chloe, two young shepherds blossoming into adulthood, find themselves falling into a sickness described by those around them as Love. What does Love mean? Why such strange symptoms? Can it be cured? Daphnis’ poetic heart believes Love could be wondrous, but Chloe has been warned Love can only lead to pain and despair. Together, they search for respite only to discover there’s something spectacular about love after all. By then, will it be too late? The Ballad of Daphnis and Chloe entwines the purity of love and the danger it courts.
